If you are new or returning to hiking, this program will get you started and on your way to better health. There is nothing like being part of a group to help motivate you! What we do? We walk, we talk, we explore the parks and neighborhoods of the greater Seattle area, the East side and Mercer Island. We meet at various locations, hike 3-4 miles and try to get our heart rates up. Plan on up to 2 hours. This is the perfect exercise for cancer survivors who have recently undergone treatment as well as those ten and twenty years out.
Time and Location
Fridays at 9:30am. Arrive at meeting location at 9:15 am to sign in. The walk begins promptly at 9:30 am. Friday hikes alternate weekly between the west and east sides of Lake Washington. Walks are 3 to 4 miles with up to a 500-ft elevation gain. Plan on up to 2 hours for the hike and coffee social afterwards.
“When I heard the news I had cancer, I was shocked and frightened. It was the last thing I expected. I had always been healthy, athletic and ate well. It was devastating. I was deeply depressed. I had a family to care for. Then, I learned about Team Survivor. In spite of my fear of water, I wanted to do a triathlon. With free training and great member support every step of the way, I was not only able to overcome my fears, I finished my first triathlon! I’m a different person now. Cancer can open doors and it lead to Team Survivor. Without them, I would not have dared to do what I’m doing today. They have offered me hope and health and, most importantly, a deeper knowledge that I can do it.”
