Cancer Organizations

Team Survivor Northwest recommends the following cancer resources in the Seattle area and across the United States.

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a “nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.”

Cancer Lifeline

Provides emotional support, resources, educational classes and exercise programs designed to support people in all stages of the cancer process.  Cancer Lifeline welcomes patients, survivors, their families, friends, co-workers and caregivers.  Their services are available throughout the Puget Sound area and in 16 Western Washington counties.

Cancer Pathways

Cancer Pathways offers a broad, community-based program of social, emotional, and educational support for cancer survivors, their loved ones and friends that provides sustained support, education and cancer resources on-site in the Seattle Clubhouse and off-site with collaborating partners.

Cierra Sisters

Cierra Sisters, Inc. is an African-American breast cancer survivor and support organization. Cierra Sisters, Inc. was conceived and founded by Bridgette Hempstead, a breast cancer survivor.  “Cierra”, an African name meaning  “knowing”  reminds us that when we have knowledge, we have power against the effects of breast cancer.  Cierra Sisters welcomes all cancer survivors, supporters, caregivers, family and friends.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Survivorship Program

Cancer and its treatment can have long-lasting or late-onset effects on the body. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Survivorship Program can offer you treatment, support, and education in the years after cancer treatment is completed.

Northwest Hope & Healing Foundation

Northwest Hope & Healing Foundation helps breast and gynecologic cancer patients from Swedish Cancer Institute.  In addition to personalized support, it  gives grants up to $500 to qualified patients  for nonmedical necessities such  transportation, groceries, utilities, child care and emergency rent.  For information on obtaining financial assistance, contact a Swedish social worker. It also provides “healing baskets” to comfort newly diagnosed patients.

Northwest Lymphedema Center

The Northwest Lymphedema Center is a valuable resource for anyone suffering from lymphedema. The goal of the organization is to help you understand all your options when researching how to get treatment for lymphedema. The Northwest Lymphedema Center was established in 1993.

Overlake Cancer Center

“Treating the Whole You.” The Cancer Center at Overlake realizes that effective cancer care means treating the whole person. The center offers an array of services that focus on all aspects of you. From diagnosis and treatment through recovery, you can count on comprehensive cancer care designed with you and your family in mind. And it’s all available in a warm, relaxing environment that feels nothing like the typical hospital setting.

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance

Seattle Cancer Care Alliance brings together the leading research teams and cancer specialists of Fred Hutch, Seattle Children’s, and UW Medicine. When you seek treatment at SCCA, you access an extraordinary group whose sole mission is the pursuit of better, longer, richer lives for our patients.

Swedish Cancer Institute

At Swedish, cancer care is designed to meet all needs, from diagnostic testing and treatment to managing symptoms and side effects to providing home follow-up services. It also includes emotional support, spiritual guidance and financial counseling. We take an integrated approach to providing this care because we recognize that mind, body and spirit all play a part in each person’s health and well-being.
