Every other year TSNW climbs a local peak – 2010 is a climb year and the peak is Mt. Adams. The climb is also an awareness and fundraising opportunity for TSNW. If you’d like to support the team by making a contribution or by volunteering to help, we’d love to have you be part of this great adventure. We are happy to announce the details of our 2010 Seattle Celebrating Life Dragon Boat Festival! Join us for a one-day festival on Lake Washington. The festival includes two divisions- the novice Community division and more competitive Recreational division. Saturday September 4, 2010 Stan Sayres Memorial Park (next to Genesee Park) www.seattledragonboatfestival.org v Form a team with friends, family or co-workers We have a special division for groups of friends and new paddlers- the Community Division. Never picked up a paddle before? No problem. We provide a coach, experienced tiller and 2 practices so your team is ready for an action-packed day on the water. You bring a team and we bring the fun!! This is a great team building experience. As we organize the event, we have many committees that need extra help. If you’re interested in taking on a role within a committee (big or small), please contact Alicia in the TSNW office. We will need volunteers on Friday and Saturday for set up, selling t-shirts, working the registration table, directing traffic, helping on the docks and clean up. v Sponsorship opportunities The Seattle Celebrating Life Dragon Boat Festival benefits Team Survivor Northwest, a local 501c# nonprofit. The festival offers the opportunity to reach over 1,500 athletic, highly focused individuals ages 25-70 who work hard and play hard. The festival is also a great team building activity for any business and includes pre-event practices to prepare your team for race day. Paddle with the purpose of ensuring support for cancer survivors in our region. TSNW is happy and excited to announce that we are exploring the idea of programming for the Tacoma area in 2011, potentially thinking about an Active Women, Healthy Women class and a Dragon Boat team. In preparation and to see what sort of interest there is, we are partnering with Tacoma Dragon Boat Association to enter a Tacoma Women’s Cancer Survivor team in our Dragon Boat Festival this August. Women make great connections through the programs they participate in with Team Survivor and many of you have expressed interest in being able to connect outside of scheduled TSNW activities. One of our energetic members, Esther Rousso, has volunteered to manage a social networking list so that you can connect with others and hopefully get out to walk/run/ski/hike/other more often! CrossFit workouts combine old-school bodyweight exercises, weightlifting, cardio work, and strength challenges at the appropriate level for each person. Better health is the goal.

The Dragon Boat team practices twice a week during the spring and summer, so it’s a great opportunity to get outside and get some fresh air and sunshine! Don’t think because the racing season has begun that you’ve missed your opportunity to join this program! Dragon Boating provides a unique and fairly intense workout to all who paddle. Participating in races is optional, but all on the team will be race ready, so the choice is yours. Practice Schedule: Saturdays 8:00-9:30am; Tuesdays 6:00-8:00pm. Midweek Hikes Are Here Our Midweek Hike program is one of our most popular summer offerings – if you have the ability to get out in the middle of the week, this is a great way to experience the back country of the Puget Sound – the group hikes every Wednesday through the summer to early fall. TSNW Run and Walk Training 2010 summer hiatus in July and August Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on June 26! All the training paid off and TSNWers who ran or walked this fun race had a great time! We take a break from our formal run/walk training in July and August to accommodate busy summer schedules, but look for more information in the September Program Update about training starting up again in September with a goal of the Seattle Half Marathon in November. Women of all fitness levels are encouraged to join this certified instructor led class. From cancer patients to survivors, there is an exercise activity appropriate for you. Our instructors will help you assess your health and fitness levels to help you reap the benefits of exercise. Focus is on stretching, strength training, and cardio-workouts. Enjoy the camaraderie of other women in this safe and supportive environment.
