Mid-Week Hiking & Urban Hiking

Come join us on the trails! We offer two levels of hikes to accommodate everyone. If you are a new hiker you might consider our easier urban hikes, while more experienced hikers will enjoy join our mid-week hikes.

Urban Hiking
If you are new or returning to hiking, this program will get you started and on your way to better health. There is nothing like being part of a group to help motivate you! Explore the parks and neighborhoods of the greater Seattle area, the East side and Mercer Island.

Fridays at 9:00am. Explore our urban parks and neighborhoods alternating between Greater Seattle and Mercer Island. We meet at various locations, hike for 3-4 miles and try to get our heart rates up. Plan on up to 2 hours.

Volunteer Leader: Janet Stillman

For more information or to get on the Urban Hiking interest list, contact our Program Manager, Monica at (206) 732-8350 or pm@teamsurvivornw.org.

Midweek Hikes: April through October
Mid-Week hikes are for those at an intermediate fitness level or above (able to walk 4 miles and climb 2,000 vertical feet). Hikes increase in length and difficulty as the season progresses. We encourage you to participate in our Urban Hiking program if you are new to hiking and want to build your fitness level to participate in our mid-week hikes.

Team Survivor Northwest’s popular mid-week hikes are on-going every Wednesday unless noted as canceled. Information about a current week’s hike goes out on Monday of that week. Mid-Week hikes are exactly as they sound – hikes on a Wednesday in beautiful locations in and around the forests and mountains of Northwest Washington. This is essentially a progressive series to improve hiking fitness over the summer, so please check with the Team Survivor Northwest office for hike location details and level of fitness needed for various hikes or to get on the mid-week hike email list. Hikers must RSVP to the volunteer leader for each week’s hike.

Our popular mid-week program will kick-off in April 2008 with an information meeting and an optional short hike on Wednesday, April 9 at 12:00pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to get outside and experience some of what the Northwest has to offer. Our kick-off meeting will give you an idea of the places you’ll go, sights you’ll see and the people you’ll be hiking with.

To RSVP or for more information, contact our Program Manager, Monica in the TSNW office at (206)732-8350 or

Clothing and equipment for all hikes:
Plenty of water. (At least one quart for a shorter hike; two for longer hikes.)
Lunch with high energy food such as peanut butter sandwich, trailmix, dried fruit, etc.
A comfortable backpack.
Raingear - always have a poncho or rain jacket in your pack.
Rain pants are also recommended.
Sturdy shoes with good tread
Hat for sun and rain protection
Sunscreen
Walking sticks (optional) A walking stick can help with balance and in going downhill if you have bad knees. Many people use two walking sticks when they hike.
Dress in comfortable layers - cotton is not a good fabric for hiking. If you can, try to wear quick dry shirts and pants. Jeans are not recommended on any hikes because they are heavy, chafe easily and stay wet for a long time.
